The UK as a Leading Islamic Finance Hub — International Collaboration

On 19 January 2023, WIEFF’s programme at the Jubilee Room, Houses of Parliament, focused on the UK’s role as a leading Islamic finance hub and the importance of international collaboration. Samina Akram, founder of WIEFF, was the panel moderator.

The programme brought together perspectives from Parliament, Islamic finance, banking, investment and international development. Its announced contributors represented the World Bank, the United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative, UNDP, the IMF, UNEP FI and the Bank of England, alongside financial institutions from the UK and overseas.

The breadth of the programme connected Islamic finance with sustainable development, climate and regulatory risk, and diversity and inclusion. It reflected WIEFF’s commitment to creating a forum in which different parts of the financial community can exchange ideas and build connections across borders.

The event programme included a discussion followed by networking, providing space for further conversation around the UK’s place in the international Islamic finance landscape.
