A Letter from the former PM of Pakistan

Dear Samina,

Having known your Father for over forty years, I have followed your career journey with great interest. I am extremely proud of all your career accomplishments, especially your work within the Islamic finance and ESG sectors.

As you know, climate change is a cause I am personally very passionate about. Climate change is one of humanity’s biggest crises and Pakistan, unfortunately, is the greatest victim of climate disaster. We have taken steps to combat emissions by planting billions of trees and converting coal to hydroelectricity.

The work you do is important and makes a huge impact. I know you have been involved in several initiatives through your work with The Women in Islamic & Ethical Finance (WIEFF) and Samak Ethical Finance; raising awareness around climate change to the global financial sector.

Your work in the Islamic finance industry is also extremely inspiring. I have come to learn more recently the UK Finance Ministers have tasked you with supporting the UK Islamic finance agenda. Congratulations on the success of your recent Islamic finance event held at the Houses of Parliament, which took place on 19th January 2023. It is the first time in Parliament’s history such a high-level gathering has taken place focused on Islamic finance, bringing together key stakeholders from across the globe. Your forum included senior Minsters and speakers from the United Nations, The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), The World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Bank of England, and several CEO’s from across the globe. This is truly remarkable work. I wish you and all the initiatives you focus on continued success.

Yours Sincerely,
Imran Khan,
Former Prime Minister of Pakistan
